Incoming Freshman Student Admission Requirements
- Wayne State University reviews each applicant individually. Admission is based on grade point average, ACT or SAT score and any supporting documentation that is provided or requested.
- Home schooled students are strongly encouraged to meet personally with an admission counselor prior to initial enrollment.
- GED holders must score a minimum of 410 on each test and an average of 450 overall and must have a 21 ACT composite score or a 990 SAT score (a 970 SAT score is required if the test was taken prior to 2007). For the older version of the GED test, a score of 45 is required in addition to the ACT or SAT.
The writing portion of the ACT/SAT will be used as an assessment tool. Wayne State University does not require applicants to take the writing portion of the ACT or SAT. However, we do recalculate the scores for students who take the SAT writing portion. The scores are recalculated as: Verbal = (Writing + Reading)/2. We take this new Verbal total and add it to the Math total for a new grand total.
Special Admission Programs
If you do not meet the above admission requirements but are still interested in pursuing a degree from WSU, the university offers a number of special admission programs.
Students with International Credentials
If you are a student with credentials from outside the US, regardless of your citizenship or immigration status, please be sure to review the WSU English Proficiency Requirements in addition to admission requirements.
